It can be hard to believe in things that we can’t see. That’s why many people don’t believe in God. But think about this. We can’t see the air, but we can see it’s effects as the wind blows past us. So it is with God. Evidence of Him is all around us and He reveals Himself in the circumstances of our lives and the lives of others. So, as He proves Himself to you, what will you do with it?

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

Hebrews 11:1 & 3

Creation itself yields to the need for a Creator and this is one way that God proves Himself to us.

Since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made.

Romans 1:20

So, the Lord reveals Himself to us through His creation. We see who He is and understand Him better by looking at all that He has created.

The heavens declare the glory of God and the sky above proclaims His handiwork. Day to day pours out speech and night to night reveals knowledge.

Psalm 19;1-2

God has no obligation beyond His creation to prove Himself to us, yet He does. He encourages His people with testimonies of His power, love, and faithfulness.

God’s Power Revealed

On their journey to the Promised Land, God purposefully led the Israelites to the land He’d given to Abraham’s other descendants, to prove His power and to encourage them. He reminded them that Edom, Moab, and Ammon all had previous inhabitants, many of whom were giants. God had dispossessed the people living there because of His love for Abraham, his nephew Lot, and grandson Esau and He would do the same for them because they too were descendants of his grandson Jacob.

The Lord was taking care of all Abraham’s children and He wanted the Israelites to see that He could defeat giants for His chosen ones. It encouraged them to know that He’d already defeated a great and mighty people for their relatives and it also helped them trust in His promise to give them a new land too.

As they continued to travel east of the Promised Land, God gave them two victories. The defeat and possession of such a vast amount of land, which contained fortified cities and giants, proved the Lord’s strength and encouraged them to continue fighting for the Promised Land. If God could give them victory on the east side of the Jordan River, then He could certainly give them victory on the west as He had promised to Abraham.

His Purpose

So, when God proves His strength and power to you, do you recognize it? Does it encourage you to keep fighting the battles before you? Do you have increased faith in His ability to overcome?

At the Last Supper, Jesus told His disciples that He was going to die soon and they would be scattered and persecuted. This doesn’t sound very encouraging until we see why He wanted them to know.

I have said these things to you, that in Me, you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart, I have overcome the world.

John 16:33

God reveals and proves Himself so we can be at peace when things are hard, so we will have the courage to keep going, and so we will place our faith in Him as we do.

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge. My Savior, you saved me… I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved.

With the merciful, You show yourself merciful. With the blameless man, You show yourself blameless. And with the purified, You deal purely. With the crooked, You make Yourself seem torturous. You save a humble people, but Your eyes are on the haughty to bring them down. For You are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness… This God – His way is perfect. The word of the Lord proves true. He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him.

2 Samuel 22:2-4, 26-29, 31

Your Testimony

Think of all the ways that God has proven Himself to you. Has He been your strong foundation, your powerful protector, or your steady and faithful Savior? Has He shown you mercy and do you see His perfection? Did He shine His light on the things you couldn’t see or understand on your own or did His light reveal the right way for you? Has His word been proven true to you?

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God. Everyone who loves the Father, loves whoever has been born of Him. For everyone who has been born of God, overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world, except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. Whoever believes in the Son of God, has the testimony in himself.

1 John 5:1, 4-5, 10

I want to hear your testimony. How has God revealed Himself in your life? How has He proven Himself to you? We all need the testimony of others. So, please comment on this post and tell everyone what God has done to prove Himself to you. Let’s all share our personal experiences with God to encourage one another and grow our faith in Him.
